Inventory in Aligni

Aligni stores inventory associated with each part in entities called Inventory Units. An Inventory Unit is a single record of inventory stored at a particular inventory location/sublocation. One Inventory Unit records the following information:

  • Location (your site must have at least one location and one sublocation).
  • Quantity - Stored in "buy-as" units and converted to "use-as" units as required.
  • Unit Cost (optional) - The cost per "buy-as" unit.

The following screenshot is from the part detail page for the part C0603C104K4RACTU in our online demo. It shows that 1,275 pieces of this capacitor are in inventory at location "FUN", sublocation "Bin 34A". It also shows that 3,600 pieces are currently in transit. You can click on the "IN TRANSIT" tag to view the associated inventory transfer order.

Manipulating Inventory

Inventory units may be manipulated manually or automatically through certain actions within Aligni. For example, you can manually add items to inventory by clicking on the "Add to Inventory" link as shown in the screenshot above. For each inventory unit, you can also "Move" inventory to a different location/sublocation and can "Adjust" quantities by clicking the appropriate link. All of these manual actions have an optional Comment field that allows you to annotate your action. This comment field is stored in the Inventory History.

For example, the "Add" action here:

will result in the this inventory record being created:

Managing Inventory

The following links provide more detail about other ways Aligni helps you manage inventory.

  • Inventory Transfers - Moving inventory units from one location to another. This is a more structured way to move inventory than by using the manual "Move" link.
  • Inventory Consumption - Consuming inventory to build finished goods. This is a structured way to adjust inventory after an assembly build.
  • Inventory Shortlists - Determining short inventory for one or more builds.
  • Inventory Minimums - Set minimum inventory levels to aid long-term planning.
